Golden Knight Malta International Film Festival

The Golden Knight Short Film Festival offers the local filmgoer the unique opportunity to watch some of the best amateur, student, and professional films from around the world.

The festival organised by the Malta Cine Circle has reached its 48th edition with a record number of participants. A total of 234 productions were received from 35 countries competing to win one of the coveted Golden, Silver or Bronze Knight Statuettes. Films arrived from Western and Eastern Europe, North and South America, Australia, the Far East, Israel, and, from emerging countries such as Nigeria, Iran and Tunisia.

The Winner of Class “A”, intended for non-commercial productions, was won by Jorge Morais Valle from Spain with the film O’Pintor De Ceos. The Silver Knight was won by Anna Kasten from Germany with her film Regenbogenengel while the Bronze Knight was given to the film La Condena also from Spain.

Class “B” is the category for films made by students from universities and film schools. The Golden Knight was won by a student from the Sam Spiegel TV & Film School of Jerusalem Israel, for the film Vika. A participant from New Zealand with his film In The Name Of Art, won the Silver Knight, with Andrea Lodovichetti from Italy getting the Bronze Knight award for his film Sotto Il Mio Giardino.

Class “C” which deals with films less than 30 minutes was won by Robert Cambrinus from the UK with his production, Illegal.

The award for Best Documentary was won by Barbara & Bernard Zimmermann from Germany.

The Malta Cine Circle Award for an outstanding achievement was given to David Serge and Matthew Pullicino for their film 303 for Cinematography.

A selection of films will be screened at the Vassalli Hall at the Mediterranean Conference Centre on 18, 19 and 20 November from 7.15pm onwards. The presentation of awards and the screening of the winning films will be held on 21 November at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall from 7pm onwards.
