GWU Founder member passes away

Malta Independent Monday, 14 December 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

General Workers’ Union founder member and ex-Labour activist Joseph Zammit passed away aged 86.

The Nationalist Party expressed its condolences to Mr Zammit’s family. Mr Zammit worked for workers’ rights for many years and the PN said that Maltese workers are the country’s best resource, and, therefore, those who work for their well-being should be respected and their work acknowledged.

Despite a lack of political agreement, the state should recognise a person’s contribution to public life, especially in the public and trade union sector.

Politics and trade unionism engagements are a noble mission aimed at serving the people.

Mr Zammit also contributed a considerable amount to the Maltese heritage scene.
