Malta Heart Foundation Donates equipment

Malta Independent Sunday, 3 January 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Malta Heart Foundation was once again called upon to support heart transplant patients through the donation of exercise equipment at Mater Dei. This donation follows the installation of an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) at the Manoel Theatre earlier this year, and the recent donation of a treadmill to a prospective heart transplant patient last October. Although still in its infancy the Foundation is working tirelessly to raise funds and awareness to promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle for the prevention of heart disease. To this end, the Foundation recently organised a fund-raising gala dinner at the Westin Dragonara, in support of its objectives.

Among the many who attended were Albert Fenech, Consultant Cardiologist and Alex Manche, Cardiothoracic Surgeon - both founding members of the MHF. Temporarily abandoning their medical skills, they entertained those present with Albert Fenech singing a medley of songs, ably accompanied by Alex Manche on the piano. The highlight of the evening, however, was the auction and raffle conducted by Will Axon, of BBC Flog It! His dynamic handling of the auction helped to enthuse those present and encouraged them to dig deep into their pockets.

Speaking about the Foundation’s achievements, Jo Cachia, chairperson to the Foundation said: “We wish to continue to pursue our goals to assist patients who suffer from heart disease; however such achievements would be impossible without the financial support of those who generously contribute during such fund-raising events.” Mrs Cachia went on to add: “We would therefore like to thank all those who donated gifts for the auction, as well as those who bought them – their generosity has resulted in a benefit for heart patients.”

The MHF hopes that they will be able to encourage more people to make donations in order to be able to continue and build upon their good work.
