Sculpture Meets art at Shelter wine bar

Malta Independent Sunday, 21 February 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Sergio Gauci (pictured) better known as Stone Pecker has been sculpting in limestone since he was 13 years old. Recently he collaborated with another respected young artist, Claire Ciantar on a bimedia project entitled Musicubed, being exhibited at the Montekristo Estates l/o Siggiewi.

For the upcoming exhibition at the wine-bar bistro Shelter, Claire has selected a kaleidoscope of past and new works, where accentuated line and vivid colours play around paper and canvas. This remarkable exhibition is organised and curated in friendship and harmony by artist and promoter Marilyn Hodgson.

Though their art has given birth to different media and dimensions, it is surprisingly conceived in a surreal manner. Figure and portraits emerge from canvas and stone, as colour and shadow complement and contrast with the intrinsic lace-like quality of Sergio’s stone, which in Claire’s work is translated into an abstraction of vivid colours. Their rhythmic and passionate approach to the themes presented cannot be merely viewed - they have to be experienced.

The exhibition, hosted by Gilian and Walter Oosterouzen in their beautiful wine-bar bistro, Shelter, located in Saqqajja Hill, Rabat, will remain open until 4 March.
