The Tigullio Car Park in St Julian’s will once again be the venue that will host the largest screen in Malta guaranteeing all football fans an unforgettable atmosphere during the forthcoming World Cup.

Addressing a news conference yesterday, Philippe Gatt, one of the organisers, said that they had always been successful in the organisation of similar events in connection with the World Cup and European Championship during the past 16 years. “These events give locals and tourists alike the opportunity to be part of the matches, despite being miles and miles away from the stadium. Thanks to the constant support of the St Julian’s Local Council over these years, the Tigullio Car Park venue has turned out to be one of the best and most appropriate venues for such events,” he said.

St Julian’s mayor Peter Bonello explained that the Council was keen to support such an event organised by Massive Promotions. “We believe it is an additional attraction and facility for many tourists that visit and reside in and around the locality during these peak weeks,” he said.

Bonello added that the car parking facilities will only be closed off to the public for 11 matches throughout the whole World Cup tournament to reduce any possible inconvenience.

Car owners will not be allowed to park after 6.30pm but access to the Scotts Supermarket for shopping will be allowed.

As was the case in the past, this event is expected to attract a large amount of football fans and thus all the business community in the Spinola area is expected to benefit. A good number of Local Wardens and Police will be patrolling the area as part of the security for the event.

Another spokesman for the organisers was Edward Mifsud who said that the Tigullio Fanzone will have the only outdoor giant screen in Malta projecting the games on a fully HD Digital Projector thanks to the local agent, Jos Vincenti & Co.

Massive Promotions also announced that they have the necessary permit from FIFA to screen the games live through Melita’s recently launched High Definition TV system. All the games that are being screened are those which start at 8.30pm with the first match being the England-USA clash on Saturday 12 June.

There will be no real admission charge, even if a ticket €2 has to be bought for admission purposes. However, it can be presented at the bar for one to buy a drink.

Massive Promotions are inviting the general public to keep up to date with all that will be going on even before the World Cup by taking a look at the World Cup Tigullio Fanzone through their Facebook group. One can also upload photos and videos.

The official sponsors of the event are Budweiser and Coca Cola.
