U-15 KO semi final

Section A runners-up Valleta are through to the final after beating Section B winners Melita by a solitary goal mid-way through the first period.

The final result does not reflect the true difference between the two teams as Valletta created much more occasions than Melita, especially after resumption.

Melita had beaten Msida 1-0 in the quarter-final, thanks to an Ian Falzon goal

Valletta keeper James Casha was called to save Ian Falzon’s long range shot in the early stages. At the other end, Ian Montanaro was fouled outside the area and the ball finished well over the bar from Cremona’s free kick.

Daniel Camilleri then handled the ball in his own half and Casha saved Jean Mizzi’s free kick.

Valletta threatened again and after Cremona dribbled past an opponent on the right flank, he tried his luck with a hard grounder. The ball missed the upright by inches.

Isaac Curmi was then fouled on the left flank and Casha saved the free kick shot by Mizzi.

Valletta forged ahead in the 15th minute. They won a free kick outside the area. From the strong drive by Leon Gauci, from 40 metres out, Schranz was forced to tip the ball over the bar.

From the resultant Brandon Grech corner, the ball came in the path of Fabio Muscat who was standing on the right edge of the area and gave Schranz no chance with a hard rising shot.

The last two actions before the break came both from Melita and were denied the equaliser by the woodwork in the 25th minute, on Curmi’s effort.

Valletta dominated the second period as they created more chances than Melita. Grech served Miguel Attard on the right flank who crossed to Cremona and Schranz saved his shot from outside the area. After a corner kick by Grech from the right flank Schranz fisted the ball outside the area which came in the path of Cremona but he miscued his shot and the ball rolled well away off target.

Melita were awarded a free kick in Valletta's half and from 20 metres Mizzi drove slightly over the bar with a hard drive.

In another attack by Valletta, Montanaro served Muhammed Zarrouq with a through ball, the latter returned the compliment to Grech in the area with Schranz again partly saving the ball which was then cleared by a defender.

Antoine Attard was then fouled outside Valletta's area and Casha saved Curmi’s free kick as minutes later he saved a hard shot by Falzon after advancing to the right edge of the area beating an opponent in the process.

The last action came from Valletta as Attard served Cremona with a cross from the right and Schranz saved his shot from outside the area to a corner.

The final will be played on Sunday 6 June at the Luxol Ground.
