The KMS has awarded the first Annabelle Vassallo Award as Most Committed Coach to Karl Cortis. It was presented with great honour by Bernard Vassallo, chairman of the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport (KMS).

Karl Cortis is a third Year PE University student. He has been coaching with KMS for these last three years. He has coached in programmes like ‘Skolasport’, ‘Sports Buzz’, ‘Summer on the Move’ and the Community Programme.

Apart from KMS he is a scout with the St Venera Scout Group. Karl has always shown great commitment and dedication throughout these years. Be it indoor games or swimming lessons, all children who were coached by Karl Cortis have experienced a positive attitude to sport and physical education.

It was the KMS that launched the award which was proudly presented for the first time during the KMS Skolasport end of season activity.

Bernard Vassallo, chairman for the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport (KMS) announced that this award was inspired by Annabelle Vassallo who, although terminally ill, has made it her goal to make a difference by touching people’s hearts and making them appreciate life. Her fortitude and positive outlook supported by her faith and appreciation of life is something that can be so taken for granted.

It is through people like Annabelle Vassallo, we can admire and attempt to make a difference in the lives of those around us. With this in mind the KMS has decided to award their ‘Most Committed Coach’ who has also tried to make a difference to those who they come into contact with through the KMS programmes.

The KMS currently employs over 80 professional and qualified coaches who are dedicated to providing a service to the young and old in various sport disciplines and or activities all year round. Sports programmes are ongoing during the winter and summer periods from athletics to swimming, football to modern dance, pilates, aerobics and walking programmes to mention a few.

These would not be possible without the support of the KMS coaches. The KMS appreciates the commitment given by all the coaches and although a difficult choice to select the recipient of this award, one particular coach has stood out for his enthusiasm and how he whole heartedly puts passion and energy into what he does.

Bernard Vassallo, Chairman for the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport (KMS), concluded by saying “that it was a great pleasure to recognise those who have put so much into sports and also the immense contribution that they have given to sport”.
