Spell It out – open reading in Valletta

Malta Independent Tuesday, 8 June 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

The next open reading will take place today at 8.30pm, at Cafe Premier, Valletta.

The concept is for authors or wannabe authors, poets or people who believe that they have something to say, something to share – anything which makes up sentences with words, traditional writers and storytellers as well as hip hop freestyle poets, slam-poets, just lovers of words, accompanied by music or...

We want to invite you to this evening where you will have the chance to express yourself and share your work. Anybody who just wants to listen is very welcome, too.

Two rules only: It has to be your original work in English or Maltese and each reading shouldn’t be longer than approximately 10 minutes. If someone wants to read a text in another language, the content should be explained.

The evening will be moderated by Vince Fabri and/or Arndt Kremer, a native and an alien, both writers themselves.

The event will take place in the Cafe Premier, Valletta, giving a more informal atmosphere than literary evenings of this kind normally portray.

Therefore it is linked to the tradition of permanent cultural events in bars which were especially common in the 19th century in Europe – open for everyone who wants to perform literature in a certain context. It is planned to have this evening every two weeks. The night will be accompanied by live music.
