Basketball Officials re-elected on FIBA Europe commissions

Malta will once again be highly represented at top FIBA Europe levels as announced by Mr Nar Zanolin, FIBA Europe Secretary General.

The President of the Malta Basketball Association, Magistrate Antonio Mizzi who was recently re-elected on the FIBA Europe board has been confirmed as the President of the Legal Commission.

MBA Secretary General Frank Camilleri was also re-confirmed as a member of the Small Countries Commission while Ray Mercieca was re-confirmed as member of the Finance Commission.

National team call-ups

In preparation for the next FIBA Europe Division C championships the national coaches have called up the players from whom then they will decide the final 12. Both set of teams are currently training on a daily basis.

The women’s competition will be held in Azerbaijan between 28 June and 3 July where the Maltese national team will be defending the gold medal won in Luxembourg two years ago. Coaches Santino Coppa and Sandro Farrugia will select the squad from the following players:

Elena Cassar, Steffi De Martino, Josephine Grima, Leanne Sciberras, Kirsten Micallef, Christina Grima, Rebecca Brincat Thoresen, Joselle Cardona, Emma Moore, Beverlee Zammit, Ashleigh Vella and Antoinette Borg.

The men’s competition will be held in Malta between 5 and 10 July 2010.

Head coach Bruno Di Pietrantonio will be selecting his side from the following list of players:

Peter Shoults, Roderick Vella, Godfrey Gauci, Isaac Tanti, David Bugeja, Jean Paul Schembri, Nigel Sultana, Darryl Joshua Jackson, Tom Paris, Jean Paul Bonnici, Anton Axiaq, Dirk Schembri, Kristin Baldacchino, Billy Zammit, Addison Bonnici, Michael Naudi, Steve Schembri and Samuel Deguara.
