Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne is recovering in hospital from a car accident.

The 1990 World Cup star was “comfortable” according to a statement yesterday from Newcastle General Hospital, where he was being treated.

Gascoigne scored 10 goals in 57 matches for England. He played for Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers and Middlesbrough before his career was cut short by injuries and off-field troubles.
