Positive Experiences for youths and adolescents

Malta Independent Sunday, 20 June 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Persons interested in acquiring new experiences in voluntary work with children, have the opportunity to do so thanks to Klabbsajf 2010. Aġenzija Appoġġ and Aċċess Community Resource Centre in Vittoriosa, together with St Margaret College and the Foundation for Educational Services, are currently coordinating Klabbsajf 2010 for children aged between five and 12 years from Cottonera and Kalkara. Klabbsajf has been organised for the past 12 consecutive years.

Klabbsajf offers alternative activities within the community for children during their summer holidays. The aim is to stimulate children’s creativity and sensitivity towards socio-cultural subjects, by means of various educational practices.

Volunteers’ roles include helping in the planning and preparation of these activities, monitoring the children under the supervision of professional staff, as well as carrying out the activities together with them. Sessions include drama, outings, sports activities and crafts. All volunteers receive the necessary training in planning skills, children’s development, caring for children, and team building. All this will help volunteers to feel part of the group as well as gain experience in the field. This training is envisaged to start in the beginning of July.

Volunteers must be 16 years or older, and available for three half days weekly, mornings only, starting from the beginning of July until mid-September. Applicants must like working with children, be motivated, and be a good team worker.

Those interested are to contact Ilona Attard on 2398 5122; email on [email protected]. A copy of the application form can also be downloaded from www.appogg.gov.mt
