Parliament: Government May need all Dar Malta for EU presidency

Malta Independent Wednesday, 23 June 2010, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Apart from the part of Dar Malta which is occupied by the Permanent Representation and the Maltese embassy, some floors have been rented out, but there is still empty space.

Replying to supplementary questions by Noel Farrugia, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said there are further interested parties considering utilising the site.

The rent being asked is on the high side, Mr Fenech added, given Dar Malta’s excellent position next to the Commission building.

But then Mr Fenech introduced a new element into the equation: with Malta’s presidency of the EU coming up in 2017, Malta may require the whole building back as its officers in Brussels will need to be increased in view of the presidency.
