More than 3,000 tickets have so far been sold for the second edition of Rockestra, to be held on 11 September in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund.

The National Philharmonic Orchestra concert will be held at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre (MFCC), Ta’ Qali and will include more heavy metal tunes than last year.

A Facebook message sent by artistic director Sigmund Mifsud and doing the rounds yesterday said: “… less than a month to go for Rockestra... More than 3000 people have their ticket... Thanks for your support... and be sure not to miss out on this year(’s)...”

The audience will be treated to music by the Beatles, Queen, Led Zeppelin and others. Musical arrangements by Mr Mifsud will include modern instruments and more heavy metal in this charity concert. Each year, Rockestra will be given a new feel to keep it innovative and attractive to every musical taste.

The concert marks the start of the musical season, which lasts until around July. It promises a good vibe thanks to the best local talent.

An acrobatic act, which is being brought over from the UK, to give a performance synchronised with the National Philharmonic Orchestra’s music is promising to be an original attraction enhancing the Rockestra experience. The organisers aim to recreate an atmosphere similar to that of last year where the interaction between musicians, singers and the audience generated a not-to-be-missed heady atmosphere.

Like last year, tickets for the standing area are €10. The organisers decided to do away with a VIP area and instead will be offering a limited number of seats for the price of €15.
