Maltese starlet Andre Schembri was back in the news yesterday as he continues to attract interest from several European clubs.
Reports in calciomercato.com said that Italian Serie A club Chievo Verona are planning to make a double coup with the acquisition of the Malta 25-year old offensive midfielder together with Brescia defender Davide Zoboli, 29 years, for the new season.
Chievo will be under the guidance of new coach Domenico Di Carlo, making his return with the Verona club after just one season with Sampdoria.
Andre Schembri has been instrumental for Ferencvaros this season and helped them reach third place in the Hungarian League, that saw them back in UEFA competitions after a six-year absence.
Andre Schembri’s contract with Ferencvaros has expired but the Maltese international has not yet decided about its renewal. Rumours have been circulating that the Maltese talent could move to seek another challenge in a better league to enhance his career.
Schembri, who scored 15 goals last season and was also one of the best players in the Hungarian league, is presently on holiday and is expected to decide about his future in the coming weeks.
Unconfirmed sources say that other Italian club Udinese had sent scouts to watch him in the last match of the Hungarian league. Other scouts from Poland, Denmark and England were reported to have been closely monitoring Andre Schembri.
The player has had spells with Eintracht Braunshweig and Carl Zeiss Jena in Germany and with SK Austria Karnten in Austria before his last season’s successful ordeal with Ferencvaros in Hungary.
