The National team will be playing two European Cup matches in the coming days, at home to Turkey and away to Poland.

In preparation for these matches the National side played two mini matches, of two sessions each, against the Hungarian players playing in our league, and the rest of the foreign players at the National Pool yesterday.

The first game against a selection of Hungarian players, served as a friendship occasion, when the Hungarian ambassador, Jalosh Balla, presented a set of medals to both sides in the first encounter, along with a trophy, given to the ASA of Malta. To reciprocate, the ASA president, Joe Caruana Curran, presented a Malta national side top to the Hungarian ambassador.

Karl Galea opened the scoring, with the opposing team replying with a trio of goals, from Robert Kovacs, a Balazs Nyeki penalty and Adam Decker. Galea again, and Jerome Gabarretta tied the score, but Tamas Molnar gave the Hungarians a first session advantage.

The local selection missed three man ups in a row, with their adversaries also missing twice, before Zoltan Radocz and Kovacs increased the Hungarians’ lead. Galea obtained his trick and a John Soler penalty took the Maltese to a goal behind, where they finished the match.

In the second match, the other foreigners were a stronger outfit, and had Ryan Coleiro in their goal. They opened the score through Bogdan rath, with Karl Galea obtaining a leveller. Marco Cuk regained his side’s advantage, but Michele Stellini tied the score once more. The foreigners then pushed forward, with a three goal spree, from Filip Trajkovic, Milos Koralji and a Rath penalty, with Jerome Gabarretta reducing the deficit before the session ended.

Steve Camilleri brought the locals to a goal behind, but the foreigners then took over, and increased their advantage through a series of strikes, from Adam Decker, Trajkovic and a Milos Koralji brace, for the final score.

ASA Selection played with the same side, with the exception of Ryan Coleiro.
