This year’s Ġieh Għawdex Awarding Ceremony, the major annual event of the Circolo Gozitano, will be held at Palazzo Palina, Ta’ Cenc Hotel, Sannat, on Friday, 28 October, at 8pm.

The ‘Ġieħ Għawdex’ award, now in its seventh year, was instituted by the Circolo Gozitano in 2005 as a means to honour personalities and/or organisation who through their work would have given an outstanding contribution to the socio-cultural and economic development of Gozo. The ‘Ġieh Għawdex’ is also awarded to individuals or organisations who have contributed to the preservation and promotion of Gozo’s distinct identity. The award is also bestowed on Gozitans who have attained national or international recognition as a result of a high level of accomplishment in their career.

The Ġieh Għawdex Awarding Ceremony forms part of the programme of events organised by the Circolo Goztitano on the occasion of Gozo day, which falls on 28 October. More details will be given later.

Gozo day commemorates the day when Gozo was liberated from the French occupation, as a result of which Gozo, for a brief beriod of time, gained complete autonomy. This year is the 213th anniversary of that important day.
