Exciting Sprint horse racing at Marsa

Malta Independent Friday, 23 September 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Two interesting eight-race meetings will be held at the Marsa racetrack this weekend; the first on Friday at 7pm and the other on Sunday at 3.30pm.

The theme of these meetings is sprint races, with trotting events over the short 1,640m distance and the flat race over a 1,250m distance. They should be exciting races with good timings. Horses have to give their all from the early stages and hard-fought endings will be the order of the day.

There is a top class race in each meeting including numerous popular horses, some of which are making their return after the summer break. We will also see two Swedish newcomers with an honourable past overseas, i.e. True Q and Queen Isabella.

The three Gold class races are also close events and include various consistent horses. Interestingly, most participants in the last Gold class race would be promoted to the Premier class with a win and various top trotters and newcomers will participate.

Friday’s flat race includes thoroughbreds from Great Britain, Ireland, Italy and the USA. It is a mixed bag with some horses having raced last week, others having been away from the track for some months, and two newcomers.

Indeed, with the start of the autumn racing championships in the coming weeks, some optimal performances are anticipated as horses aim to start reaching a peak in their preparations.
