Even though Andre Schembri’s new team Panionios lost 2-1 against Atromitos last weekend; Schembri, made it clear that he means business this year after scoring the opening and his first goal for Panionios.
It was after a deflected free kick when Schembri, right, received a perfect cross from the right. With a perfect elevation and a powerful header he scored his first goal for the team giving them a momentary lead. The Maltese international played his very first 90 minutes for Panionios and after scoring his first goal of the season, the player looked relieved in his celebrations after what had happened in previous months.
When interviewed by Nova Sports after the game, Schembri noted that his team was passing through a tough period and this was showing in a couple of negative results adding that this was the second consecutive defeat for his team. About his goal, the player said that although this was a much-awaited goal, which can give him more confidence, he was disappointed with the result overall. The player added that he preferred not scoring this goal and ending the game with three points for Panionios.
Panionios’ next match is scheduled for next Saturday against the team placed seventh, OFI.
