Rabat 2

Sliema Hotsticks 0

Umpires: Reno Cremona and Edward Hughes

In a rather drab match Rabat got the better of Sliema Hotsticks by two clear goals.

Taking the field without two of their stronger players, namely Branko Radojovic and Josef Antonelli, Rabat opted to rely on the counter attack.

On the 23rd minute and on one of their rare counterattacks Rabat won two consecutive short corners and from the second one managed to scramble the ball home through Charlot Antonelli.

In the second half Sliema again took the upper hand but it had to be a good sortie by Cole on Jason Vella to save Sliema from going two down.

Sliema’s reaction was immediate and tested Azzopardi for the first time; however the goalkeeper effected a good save. On the 49th minute Rabat again won a short corner with Shawn Falzon’s hit just missing the target. On the 52nd minute Sliema forced another short corner with Shawn Falzon for Rabat clearing away the danger.

In the 65min Sliema were unlucky not to equalise, when from a short corner action Shaun Grima was denied by the upright when well positioned. Two minutes later Rabat sealed the issue through a somewhat controversial goal by Shawn Falzon from yet another short corner action.

Qormi place third

In the first match of the day played between Floriana Y.S and Qormi H.C. for third and fourth place, Qormi emerged winners by virtue of a penalty shoot out after the game ended 2-2 with goals being scored by Luke Borg Costanzi for Floriana on the 15th minute, Ryan Brincat equalised for Qormi on the 22nd.

On the 54th minute Mark Camilleri put Floriana again in Front with a stabbing push from a short corner action, but Qormi equalised on the 60th through Jonathan Aquilina.

Qormi eventually won the encounter 3-2 on penalties.
