Malta Independent Saturday, 17 December 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The U*Bet FA Trophy competition continues at the weekend with 14 more matches to conclude the round of 32 (third round) - six today and eight tomorrow.

Today, the matches are being played at the Centenary Stadium, the National Stadium and the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

At the Centenary Stadium, Gharghur will be facing St George’s in what should be a balanced match

In the second match, Rabat should be the favourites to beat Kirkop and therefore advance to the fourth round.

At the National Stadium, the first match is that between Zejtun and Balzan which should be considered as a top notch encounter.

The Corinthians, chasing promotion to the Premier League, are expected to offer stiff resistance to Premier side Balzan.

In the other match, second division leaders Gzira take on Premier side Qormi, who are obviously the great favourites to win.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, San Gwann face Marsaxlokk who should win to go through despite their current problems. In the other match, Hibs should be considered as overwhelming favourites to beat third division leaders Pembroke Athleta.

Tomorrow, at the Centenary Stadium, Luqa St Andrew’s face Floriana - a match which brings about a lot of memories from the past encounters in the top league between these two teams.

In the match that follows, Premier side Tarxien Rainbows take on first division leaders Pieta Hotspurs.

At the Hibernians Stadium, Birkirkara should maintain their winning trend as they face Vittoriosa Stars, which is to be followed by the all Premier clash between Mqabba and Sliema Wanderers.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Mosta should have the better of second division side Msida St Joseph, while St Patrick will certainly have a difficult time against champions and current runaway Premier League leaders Valletta.

There are also matches in Gozo - between Xewkija Tigers and Senglea Athletic - and at the Luxol Stadium, where Lija Athletic face Victoria Hotspurs.
