Malta Independent Saturday, 17 December 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

This year’s ‘Gowl ghall-Istrina’, now in its third edition, is being held to mark the 30th anniversary of the Ta’ Qali National Stadium. A special programme to commemorate this momentous event will be the highlight of the third edition of GOWL GĦALL-ISTRINA.

The programme of events was announced recently by Alex Manfre (MFA vice president), George Micallef (of NET - Replay), Major Mark Mallia (President’s Aide de Campe), Clinton Buhagiar (of One TV - L-Argument), Jason Micallef (ONE TV) and Josef Fitzpatrick (NET TV).

It was always the intention of the MFA to commemorate the 30 years of football at the National Stadium and this was seen as an ideal opportunity, even in the light of the fact that President Dr. George Abela served at the helm of local football during this period.

Thirty football personalities will be honoured by the Malta Football Association and an All-Stars triangular tournament with the participation of top local and foreign players from the BOV Premier and First Division leagues will follow.

‘Gowl ghall-Istrina, a brainchild of NET REPLAY executive producer Ġorġ Micallef, will be held on Monday 26 December at the National Stadium, Ta’ Qali.

All proceeds from this event will go towards the annual fund-raising fixture, L-iStrina. His Excellency, the President of the Republic and patron of the Malta Football Association, Dr George Abela, will be attending to meet all the participants and recipients of the honours.

The organising committee, chaired by MFA Vice-President Alex Manfre`, includes representatives from the Malta Football Association, the Youth FA and the two weekly football shows on NET TV and ONE TV, REPLAY and L-ARGUMENT.

The event, kicking off at 4.15pm, will bring together most partners involved in local football and, at the same time, help raise much-needed money in aid of L-iStrina. Top local singers will be entertaining the crowd present prior to the All Stars tournament.
