As was expected, Qormi found little difficulty in eliminating Second Division side Mellieha from the competition.

The Yellow Blacks settled the issue in the first 15 minutes scoring three goals that put the issue beyond doubt.

The match was in actual fact a no contest with Mellieha’s hopes of making a big upset quickly fading away, practically after only 75 seconds after giving away a penalty.

Mellieha also lost Loquete’s services after only 33 minutes, making it more difficult for them to worry the Qormi rearguard.

Jorge Pereira Da Silva scored a hat trick with new signing Garcia Suguino also on the mark for Stephen Azzopardi’s side.

After only a minute and 15 seconds Qormi won a penalty when Luke Sciberras was floored by Matthew Vella and from the penalty spot captain Joseph Farrugia made no mistake.

Mellieha tried to make their presence felt with a good Loquete run that finished with a shot slightly missing the base of the upright.

On nine minutes Qormi doubled the score when a Luke Sciberras cross was completely misjudged by Mellieha goalkeeper James Abela and Jorge Pereira Da Silva easily slotted the ball home.

Seven minutes later, Qormi added a third goal when Pereira Da Silva headed in the top corner of the net a good Matthew Bartolo cross from the right flank. The match was practically over after the first quarter of an hour.

Qormi controlled the match which was really a training spin for the remaining minutes of the first half.

However Qormi really failed to impress as they never went close again to scoring further goals. On their part Mellieha’s efforts were easily controlled by Qormi’s defence.

On the resumption Qormi had two shots from Pereira Da Silva slightly missing the target. On the hour Qormi scored again when new signing Caio Garcia Suguino first timed home a beauty following a Joseph Farrugia freekick.

On 69 minutes Qormi scored a fifth when a Luke Sciberras cross was met by Jorge Pereira Da Silva who first timed past Abela for the best goal of the match.

Qormi had other chances with Joe Chetcuti denied by a brilliant Abela save.

On the other end, Mellieha had their best chance of scoring a consolation goal with a Taylor dipper brilliantly saved by Qormi goalkeeper Sultana. Ten minutes from time Mellieha missed a sitter when substitute Mauro Calleja miskicked in front of goal.
