Dingli Swallows 1

Dingli Swallows and St Andrew’s earned a point each after an interesting draw in a keenly contested match. The result was a fair one as Dingli were the better team in the opening stages, taking an early lead, with the Saints coming back strongly especially in the second half.

Dingli missed the services of Francis Owusu at the heart of their defensive set up. Konda was not at his best even though he gave a good contribution to the side, and Porcari confirmed he is an asset for the side.

The Saints had a slow start but were the better team in the second half, but they failed to snatch a winner.

Dingli made the first attempt at goal when Porcari’s grounder slightly missed the base of the upright. On ten minutes St Andrew’s went close when Kurt Formosa almost committed an own goal in an attempt to clear a Ryan Previ cross.

On 16 minutes Dingli took the lead when Porcari finished off in style a good Konda move on the left flank. The Saints took some time to settle down after this setback but were dangerous when took hold of the midfield sector half way through the first half.

On 25 minutes Arafa Nakua had a good drive well saved by Dingli goalkeeper Jeffrey Farrugia. Their best scoring opportunity came seven minutes from the break when neil Chetcuti went through on the right and crossed towards Nakua whose shot beat Farrugia but Porcari was on the right spot on the goal line to block what looked a certain goal.

In the second half the Saints continued to press in search of the equalizer with Anakua hitting slightly wide and Farrugia saved a central Alhinho Goncalves shot.

On 75 minutes St Andrews were rewarded for their pressure when Alhinho Goncalves’ cross was met by Gustavo Ribeiro who fired low past Farrugia.
