A 66-year-old woman was yesterday cleared of assaulting another woman, with the court citing lack of evidence.
Rita Camenzuli, 66, from Żabbar, was cleared of having assaulted 73-year-old Rosanne Magro on 1 September in Żabbar. The court heard how the two women got into an argument as they were buying gas, and the accused ended up giving everyone an eyeful as her dress was pulled down during the scuffle.
Mrs Camenzuli was about to buy some gas, when she saw Mrs Magro making the sign of the cross. The accused asked the other woman why she did that, and the two ended up coming to blows.
Witnesses who testified in the case gave different versions of events and the woman was cleared as a result. Police inspector Robert Said Sarreo prosecuted while Dr Mark Busuttil appeared for the accused.
