The Metropolitan Chapter will be concelebrating Mass of Thanksgiving at Mdina Cathedral tomorrow, at 6pm to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the ordination to the priesthood of Archbishop Emeritus Joseph Mercieca

Mgr Mercieca was ordained by Bishop Mgr Joseph Pace on 8 March, 1952, in Gozo. He was born in Victoria on 11 November, 1928, and was educated at the Gozo Seminary, Gregorian University and Lateran University.  

On 27 July, 1974, Mgr Mercieca was appointed auxiliary bishop of Malta and consecrated titular bishop of Gemelle in Numidia on 29 September that year. He was appointed Archbishop of Malta on 12 December, 1976.
