Satisfactory Results for GymStars

Seventeen girls from GymStars Gymnastics Club travelled to the United Kingdom recently and managed to gain 21 medals and five overall cups, all in different categories.

This competition was hosted by Dave’s Gymnastics Academy in Colchester, Essex. All gymnasts returned home with satisfactory results.

The competition was based on the national developing program of British Gymnastics, directed by Technical Director Adrian Stan, a Romanian coach who runs the development academy in Gymnastics for British Gymnastics. It proved to be an excellent experience for the GymStars youngsters and augurs well for the future.

Mia Vickery gained top results and surely is ready for the Island Games, that are to be held in Sardinia in May. Mia will be representing Malta in these games with two other gymnasts, namely Adreanna Zammit and Kirsty Caruana.

Mia competed in the Fig Modified open and gained first Overall first on Floor, first on Bars,second on Vault.

Suzanna Buttiegieg second Floor and fourth overall, Claire Azzopardi fourth Floor and seventh overall.

Sana Grillo competed age in group 12 yrs and under F.I.G. modified, showed determination and collected an array of medals first Overall , first on Floor, second on Bars, second on Vault ,and third on Beam.

Mea Farrugia who is only seven yrs old, was prominent in her category and won first Overall, first on Bars, first on Vault, third on Floor, together with Cora Caruana, who is still 8 years old, second Overall, second on Vault, second on Beam and fourth on Floor.

Ella Borg gained third overall, first on Floor, second on Bars, third on Vault. Erika Ertagrul was also impressive with her results - third on Floor, third on Bars, and third on Beam. Michela Vella also had an incredible result and this after only being with the Club since September gained second on floor, She performed a wonderful Floor routine. Mirea Micallef and Courtney Ellul being only just six years old and having their first experience abroad showed determination and good performances and look forward for the future.

Celenia Polidano who only joined the club a few months ago gained first on Beam in her category and third onVault. This was her first experience abroad. Hermoine Micallef second on Bars and fourth on Beam. Emma Camilleri had also an Impressive result with being fourth on Beam, Leah Barber and Julie Magri although not being in the medal category gained very good results 7th on Floor and 9th on Bars .

Daphne Marie Cassar gained impressive results gaining seventh on Floor and seventh on Vault , an incredible result of over 12,00 on both apparatus. Daphne is a gymnast who travels to Malta all the way from Gozo to train 12 hours a week. She shows incredible determination and augurs well for the future, in the hope that she will, one day, make history and become the first Gozitan competing for Malta.

These gymnasts were all prepared by the club’s foreign and Maltese coaches. The contingent included the head of delegation, Sandra Borg and Francesca Borg. Francesca, an International Judge, was also asked to judge in this competition.

GymStars Gymnastics Club will again be hosting another international competition in July with the biggest participation ever. Some of these gymnasts will also be participating in this competition.
