St Patrick Keep salvation hopes alive

St Andrews 0

St Patrick 1

A wonderful goal scored midway through the first half courtesy of Spassov kept St Patrick’s hopes alive in surviving the drop next season although the odds are still very much stacked against the Zabbar boys.

The first 45 minutes belonged to St Andrews as they not only had most of the possession but they were also dangerous in attack especially from the right flank. Nicki Vella Petroni was tormenting the St Patrick rearguard every time he got the ball, while Wayne Attard side won several corners which the St. Patrick rearguard looked vulnerable at times to defend.

St Patrick struck on 24 minutes against the run of play when Spas Spasov was free in the area and scored with a back-heel following a low cross by Alex Ellul from the right flank.

The Saints pressure died down in second half with St Patrick looking to have been coping better defensively then in the first half. It was Nicky Vella Petroni who never stopped running but rarely found help by his teammates.
