The 2012 San Michel team tournament at VLTC came to an end recently.

The tournament is sponsored by San Michel Mineral Water of Simonds Farsons Cisk and attracted the participation of 66 men and 42 ladies.

Players were grouped into six teams and the tournament’s captains were Christine Scerri, Diane D’Alessandro, Gian Gatt, Carmen Difesa, Lino Scicluna and Jonathan Camilleri.

The competition was held over a period of 12 weeks with teams playing each other over two rounds and then with the top four teams advancing to the knockout stage. In the semifinals, Diane D’Alessandro’s team eliminated Christine Scerri’s squad while Gian Gatt’s team got the better of Carmen Difesa’s players.

The final, played on VLTC’s Atlas Insurance court, was a hard-fought encounter in which the team captained by Gian Gatt emerged the winners beating Diane D’Alessandro’s outfit with a 7-5 scoreline.

The VLTCthanked Simonds Farsons Cisk plc for having once more given VLTC members the possibility of enjoying the popular San Michel tournament, which served as a weekend breaker during the winter months.
