Double Trap Maltese shooter William Chetcuti had a perfect start yesterday morning at The ISSF World Cup Lonato 2012, managing a straight of 50 out of 50 clays but failed to keep the momentum hitting 46 in both his second and third rounds for a total of 142. This put him in a tight shoot off between five shooters, where he just managed to qualify among the best six for the barrage finals edging India’s Sodhi Ronjan in a second shoot off.

In the finals William improved his position to fifth place overall hitting 45/50 for a total of 187 against Alshamsy Saif’s (United Arab Emirates) 186 hitting 44/50 in the final.

Richmond Joshua (USA) won Gold with 193 (144+49) followed by Russian duo Fookev Vitaly taking Silver with 191 (142+49) and Vasely Mosin taking the Bronze after a final shoot off with Al Deehani Fehaid from Kuwait. Vasely scored 190 (145+45) +7 in s/off while Al Deehani scored 190 (145+45) +6 in s/off.

Fifteen year-old Nathan Lee Xuereb who won the Third Malta International Double Trap Grand Prix last week hit 43,45 and 46 for a total of 134.

The Maltese shooters were both accompanied by their coach Jimmy Bugeja for this event where fifty six Double Trap shooters from around the world were competing.

Their next engagement is at The European Championships 2012, later on this month in Larnaca, Cyprus.
