Golf: Sansone And Cassar Torreggiani win Generation Cup

The second edition of the Malta Golf Association Generation Cup, officially sponsored by NESCAFÈ Dolce Gusto,was held last week and was open to both experienced and young golfers.

. The Generation Cup is one of the two competitions organised by the MGA. This year’s edition saw 24 teams registering for the full 18‐hole competition. A further eight teams registered for a 9‐hole competition ‐ which was run concurrently with the main competition to allow the very young golfers enjoy the tournament set up specifically for related golfers to enjoy a game of golf together.

The format of both competitions was two players scramble medal with a handicap allowance of 7/8 of the lower handicap.

The 90hole competition was won by Jean Scerri who played with his son Nicholas through a 1 stroke lead from Michelle Gialanze and her son Edward. Maurice Gruppetta with his adopted golfing partner, Edward Micallef Stafrace placed third.

In the MGA NESCAFÉ DolceGusto Generation, last year’s winners Bernard Cassar Torreggiani and his grandfather Vincent Curmi, with a net 58, missed third place on count back consideration. This was awarded to Doreen Balzan and her daughter Leann who in turn had to concede second place to Felicity Dix and her son Rupert also on count back consideration.

The Cassar Torreggiani family however were not about to let the trophy get out of their hands. This time it fell to Bernard’s brother Matthew who together with his adopted golf partner Louis Sansone claimed first prize with a net 57.

The prizes and the trophy for the tournament were presented to the winners by Ian Macpherson (RMGC Club Captain), William Beck (MGA President) and Naum Janakiev (Managing Director Nestlé Malta Ltd), main sponsors of the tournament.
