Malta Independent Thursday, 21 June 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Ta’ Xbiex FC will be the new team in the Third Division as from next season after a motion presented by Third Division Clubs was accepted unanimously at the MFA General Council.

A discussion ensued whether former Vittoriosa coach Winston Muscat could find redress in the civil courts for payment of dues after all possible avenues in the MFA had been exhausted. The motion was carried with one abstention.

Marsaxlokk FC also confirmed that all pending payments had been made and this was met with some acclamation by the council members. Other pending payments were also discussed and settled.

There was also a discussion on some amendments to laws of football particularly with regard to nurseries. Other topics relating to the Technical Centre and the Head Coach were also discussed.

Marsa and Kalkara FC were again accepted to remain in the Third Division after having finished in last position. The council also discussed an application from Ta’ Xbiex FC to enter the Third Division.

MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo said that he did not agree with clubs joining on a consistent basis in the Third Division. He also explained that the First Division would increase by one team, something which was resisted from the clubs playing in this division.

Darmanin Demajo also presented a motion which came from Third Division clubs where Ta’ Xbiex would be accepted into the Third Division with the change in team numbers taking place in forthcoming seasons. A discussion ensued on this motion where eventually it was agreed that First Dvision teams would increase to 14 teams and that from the Third Division, three teams would be promoted and three would be relegated as from 2013-14. The motion was approved unanimously.

The application from Ghajnsielem FC to join the Third Division was refused due to logistical problems.
