Malta’s National team in European Championships of small countries

The Men’s national team will be in San Marino between 2 and 7 July for the FIBA Europe European Championships of the Small Countries.

During the last edition of this tournament held in Malta two years ago, the national team won the bronze medal. The preparations for this tournament started months ago; however, the training got harder in the last weeks under the guidance of national coach Paolo Di Fonzo and his assistant coaches Joe Galea and Peter Farrugia, as well as physical trainer Salvatore De Martino.

In this championship Malta will be playing in Group B together with Wales, Scotland home team San Marino. Moldova, Andorra and Gibraltar will be competing in Group A. Malta will start with the first game next Monday against Scotland. The rest of the games will be played as follows:

Tuesday 3 July Wales vs Malta

Wednesday 4 July – San Marino vs Malta

There will be no games on 5 July and the semi finals and finals will be played on 6 and 7 July. The following players have been called by the national coach:

Omar Said, Roderick Vella, Shawn Pace, Josh Jackson, Chris Meier, Kristin Baldacchino, Steve Schembri, Nigel Sultana, Samuel Deguara, Addison Bonnici and David Bugeja.
