Horse-racing - Trotters’ Summer championships enter final phase

Malta Independent Friday, 13 July 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Another race meeting will be held at the Marsa racecourse today, with a seven race card starting at 7pm.

This meeting is dedicated to trot racing on a 2,140m distance, with this and the next meeting being the last opportunity for participants in the summer championships to gain precious points leading to the selection of horses participating in the finals scheduled for 27 July.

The highlight of the meeting is the Premier class race featuring 13 of Malta’s best trotters including top performers in last week’s races, such as Oviedo Vici, Nitesco d’Anthony, Bonus Kall, Veikko Hornline, Net de Ginai and others. Swedish newcomer Power Night Star is also scheduled to debut.

The Gold class race sees an equally balanced 16-horse field many of which have raced in the Premier class quite recently. Horses hail from France, Sweden, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands and include last week’s winner Naja In Blue and horses placing in recent weeks, such as Orion du Vaumicel, Reado November, Key Value, Imbra d’Alfa and others.

We also have two interesting Silver class races with in-form horses such as Kosai L.J., Quartz des Pinons, Onwards Star, Napolitano Sun, Stoms Alex, Okilebo de Bremont, Bankir Zon, Cal Win and others.

The short 2,140m distance over which these races will be held stimulates fast races with strong finishes. The additional attraction of horses needing to gain points to make it to the summer championship finals should provide some exciting fare at the racecourse this evening ...
