Handball - La Salle Handball Club favourites to win in both categories

Following their success in the Super Cup finals, La Salle Handball Club have established themselves as strong contenders to win the MHA Cup in both men’s and women’s categories.

In the men’s category, all teams have played three matches, the biggest surprise so far being Kavallieri RS2 who are currently in second place after beating last season’s league runners-up Phoenix SMS Mondial and newcomers HMS Eurosport.

Aloysians Von Taine are also tied in second place with Kavallieri RS2 after obtaining two wins out of three.

HMS Eurosport have had a tough debut as this season’s new entry suffered three consecutive defeats despite showing bold displays during their matches.

A series of injuries and inexperience have also hindered their chances, which they hope to make up for once the 2nd division league gets underway.

Luxol Si Mangia and Phoenix SMS Mondial both have one win from three matches.

Luxol surprised Kavallieri in their second match with a good win but had to succumb to Aloysians and La Salle in their recent games. Phoenix only registered a win against HMS, as the start of the new season leaves much to be desired from last season’s league runners-up.

Finally, La Salle BHS have extended their unbeaten run from last season to a whopping 20 matches, making them firm favourites to land their second honour of the season.

In the women’s category, La Salle ZT Developments won both their matches against Aloysians Zmerc and Luxol, the latter following a nail-biting finale where victory was secured only a few seconds from full-time.

Luxol have also won two matches out of three, clearly showing the team’s improvement from last season. Phoenix Dolcino and Aloysians Zmerc have three points each, with the latter having a game in hand.

Last but not least are Kavallieri RS2 who, despite not winning any matches so far, are a team full of young talented players who have been giving their opponents a good run for their money.

The MHA Cup continues with another round of matches this weekend, as teams are gearing up for the start of the national league.
