Bergodi is new coach for Pescara

Pescara has appointed former player Cristiano Bergodi as coach following Giovanni Stroppa's resignation.

Bergodi, who has never coached in Serie A, has signed a contract until June 2013 and takes charge of his first training session on Tuesday.

The 47-year-old Bergodi spent five years at Pescara as a player after progressing through its youth ranks.

Stroppa resigned after Sunday's 1-0 loss at Siena, which left the club one point above the relegation zone.

Stroppa took over Pescara during the offseason when Zdenek Zeman signed with Roma. Zeman guided Pescara to the Serie B title last season.
