A lawmaker says Turkey is again considering introducing chemical castration for people convicted of sexually abusing children.
The Aksam newspaper on Monday quoted lawmaker Alev Dedegil as saying Turkey's ruling party is preparing a draft bill that would allow courts to order chemical castration for people convicted of paedophilia, in consultation with the country's health authorities.
She says sex offenders would also receive rehabilitation and psychological treatment.
It was not clear when the draft bill would be submitted to Parliament.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government proposed a similar bill to Parliament two years ago. It never made the assembly floor and was shelved as Turkey prepared for elections.
The procedure of chemical castration involves the administration of testosterone-suppressing hormones intended to curb the sex drive.
