Diageo’s Global Whisky Ambassador in Malta

Malta Independent Wednesday, 2 January 2013, 15:57 Last update: about 11 years ago

Ewan Gunn, the Global Brand Ambassador for JOHNNIE WALKER was recently hosted in Malta by M. Demajo Wines and Spirits, Diageo partners in Malta.

During his visit, Ewan conducted a two-day seminar at the newly refurbished Vaults Restaurant at ITS, during which he mentored the local Johnnie Walker ambassadors, by providing intimate knowledge of the whiskies and educating them to discover more about these big-flavoured blends of the world’s best selling whisky.

Johnnie Walker all started in 1820, by the young John Walker, who began to trade in teas and spices from the New World, applying his newly acquired skills to the creation of whisky blends. His son Alexander envisioned a whisky that would be savoured by the traders, explorers and merchants – a whisky that would travel to the four corners of the earth, hence the birth of the iconic square bottle for less breakages, and it’s slanted label, which allowed more text to be included.

In the same year the Walker family celebrated 100 years in business, Alexander Walker was awarded a Knighthood by King George V. By the late 20th Century, Johnnie Walker was inextricably woven into the cultural fabric of society, becoming synonymous with style and sophistication, its name and design instantly recognized globally.

On his final day, Ewan conducted a seminar at the unique La Vigna Wine Cellars for a select group of people, including members of Malta’s top publications. The invitees were offered Johnnie Walker Black, and given a personalised certificate of attendance signed by Ewan Gunn.
