‘Visions Beyond’: Matthew Kassar exhibits at Paris embassy

Malta Independent Saturday, 5 January 2013, 16:39 Last update: about 11 years ago

An exhibition by Maltese artist Matthew Kassar was inagurated last month at Malta’s Embassy to France by Ambassador Pierre Clive Agius.

The exhibition, ‘Visions Beyond’, brought to Paris a sense of nostalgia for Malta to the many friends of the embassy, young and old alike.  The Kassar’s work is in fact organically linked to his native Malta – work which is characterised by original landscapes built on newspapers against a dominantly contrasting blue-toned colour.

Many guests turned up for the opening of this exhibition including a good number of ambassadors from all over Europe and former French ambassadors to Malta.  Mme Natasha Meli-Daudey, Consul General of Malta in France, was also present for the event.

In opening the exhibition Ambassador Agius said that Matthew Kassar was evidence of the energetic cultural life of Malta.  He described the artist as very versatile – someone who is not afraid to challenge the traditional with new concepts, to explore the traditional with new techniques and new ambitions.  In so doing, ambassador Agius said, he is giving a re-found dignity to newspapers which should normally be obsolete.

The exhibition will remain open until 10 January and Maltese on holiday in Paris are invited to view the exhibition.

The exhibition was sponsored by Express Trailers.
