The Federazzjoni Maltija Vetturi Antiki (FMVA) will be organizing its 5th Vintage Motors Festival on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th of January.

Spread out over two days in both Malta and Gozo the event comprises a Regularity Run for genuine pre-1977 vehicles which will start opposite the Domus Romana in Rabat Malta on Saturday at 2.00pm. The event will pass through some of Malta’s most scenic routes, includes a half-way halt at Wied Iz-Zurrieq  and will finish at Mellieha at 4.00pm.

Part two of the Regularity Run starts at 9.00am the following morning at Ghajnsielem and finishes at noon at Rabat in Gozo. Static shows for vehicles over 25 years old will also be held in Gozo on Sunday and the public will be able to view some of the most beautiful and technically interesting vintage vehicles ever made. Lovers of classic vehicles can expect to see military vehicles, classic cars and motorcycles from the UK, Europe and America. These shows will be held at Nadur, Rabat and Qala from 9.00am to 3.30pm. with the assistance of the respective local councils as well as the Ministry for Gozo.

Later during the afternoon all vehicles will gather in Nadur to participate in the official presentation-of-trophies ceremony.

The FMVA Chairman Charles Zahra said that this event has generated significant interest and for the first time ever, the organisers are expecting enthusiasts from neighbouring Sicily to participate. Such foreign participation fits in perfectly with the strategic vision the FMVA had many years back of creating a classic vehicle niche in Malta’s tourism package.

This event is open also to non-members of the above clubs. Those interested are to attend a briefing at the Old Motors Club in Lija on Wednesday 16th January at 7.30pm.

The FMVA was set up in 1998 and today comprises the American Auto Club Malta, The Military Vehicles Club Gozo, The Historic Motorcycle Club, The Military Vehicles Collectors Club, The Old Motors Club and the Valletta Grand Prix Foundation. It has also been accepted as a member of the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA), and been officially appointed as the ANF (National FIVA Authority) for Malta & Gozo.

Official FIVA representation means that Maltese enthusiasts, through their respective Federazzjoni Maltija Vetturi Antiki member clubs, are now part of a world-wide organisation that promotes the preservation, protection and use of classic vehicles.
