Former Italy and Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero scored four goals in Sydney FC's 7-1 demolition of Wellington Phoenix in Australia's A-League on Saturday.

Del Piero cleverly twisted and shot with his left foot for his first goal on 21 minutes, before scoring from a penalty kick two minutes later.

The attacking maestro completed his hat-trick with a stunning strike from the edge of the area in the 39th, before adding another solo effort in the second half.

Del Piero also set up the first goal for new striker Joel Griffiths in Sydney's best performance of the season which sees it improve to 6th place in the standings in the 17th round.

Jason Culina (26th) and Yairo Yau (84th) also scored for Sydney, with Ben Sigmund replying for the visitors.
