The Hotel Phoenicia, in Floriana, a renowned 5-star destination with a 70 year pedigree has struck gold again with the award of a TripAdvisor “Travellers’ Choice” Award. TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, has previously awarded the hotel its prestigious “Excellence Award”. The new ‘Traveller’s Choice’ Award is proudly displayed at the main reception desk of this 5-star landmark hotel, amongst a raft of other recent awards from Thomas Cook and other industry leaders.

The Hotel Phoenicia was recently at the centre of the European Film Academy Awards and the Valletta International Baroque Festival with guests rubbing shoulders with the stars from both screen and stage. The Hotel Phoenicia is to Valletta what the Raffles Hotel is to Singapore, a landmark property that offers a welcoming but restrained luxury, excellent dining, signature cocktails, jazz, expansive gardens, live music most days, and an air of sophisticated relaxation that charms 5-star travellers from all over the world.

The TripAdvisor accolades came in three categories, Top 25 Hotels in Malta, Top 25 Hotels for Service in Malta and Top 10 Luxury Hotels in Malta, with The Hotel Phoenicia claiming a top 5 spot in each category. Overall there were more than 6,000 award-winning properties in 82 countries spanning nine regions across the globe. This year marks the 11th year for TripAdvisor's Traveller Choice Awards. TripAdvisor-branded sites make up the largest travel community in the world, with more than 50 million unique monthly visitors, and over 60 million reviews and opinions. The winners are based on millions of reviews and opinions, covering more than 650,000 hotels collected in a single year from travellers around the world.

TripAdvisor’s Chief Marketing Officer Barbara Messing said in a statement. "It's the insights from millions of travellers that make these awards so special, as they help others discover the hotels travellers love most”.

Built in 1939, The Hotel Phoenicia was Malta’s first five-star hotel, giving it a wealth of history and a unique charm standing proudly on the doorstep to Valletta. The recently refurbished interior harbours an imposing Art Deco influence sustaining 128 bedrooms and 8 suites, affording some truly majestic panoramic views from most rooms and terraces. The stunning 7.5 acre garden allows guests to stroll through a tropical panopoly of lush plants, flowers and trees on the way to the hotel’s magnificent pool hovering above the Valletta bastions. Visitors and guests can wine and dine in a splendid choice of settings, whether it’s haute cuisine at the Phoenix restaurant, an indulgent afternoon tea in The Palm Court Lounge, a cooling cocktail at in the comfortable Club Bar, or a flambé dinner at the Pegasus Brasserie.

“On behalf of the whole team here at The Phoenicia Hotel, we are all very thrilled by this distinction, and would like to sincerely thank all of our guests that have recommended our hotel on TripAdvisor’s website,” said Charles Azzopardi, General Manager. “TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards honour the world’s best hotels, earning their distinction from those who know them best, the real travellers who are our guests year round. It is so exciting to receive this second TripAdvisor Award and recognition from the people who count the most, the people who choose to stay at the hotel. TripAdvisor has proved to be a valuable tool in contributing to our online presence and reputation. We welcome and thank their recognition.”
