Outgoing Nationalist MP Jesmond Mugliett has attended a Labour Party activity in which the PL explained its proposals on planning and development.

The session was open to architects and developers.

Mugliett, an architect by profession, had not been allowed to contest the election on behalf of the PN after he had voted against the party whip's orders in the last legislature.

In his intervention, Mr Mugliett asked about the importance the PL will be giving to sustainable development. He pointed out that the PL is proposing the setting up of a parliamentary committee on development, which he said already exists. He asked whether the PL intends to do something different.

Mr Mugliett spoke about spatial planning, noting that the PN has not included this in its electoral programme, asking whether the PL intends to include it in its own programme.

In his reply, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said that spatial planning will be part of the PL programme and the party is committed to it.

He said he was conscious that the parliamentary committee exists but the PL will give it more importance. This will be the Public Accounts Committee for Development.

In a not-so-subtle subtle hint, Dr Muscat said he looked forward to having the best minds from the whole political spectrum working together on sustainable development.
