PM to net €35,000 in five years for use of personal car

Malta Independent Tuesday, 23 April 2013, 15:44 Last update: about 12 years ago

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat will be netting €35,000 over five years – the length of the legislature – for using his personal car for his prime ministerial duties.

In reply to a PQ submitted by Nationalist MP Claudette Buttigieg, Dr Muscat said he had chosen to continue to make use of his personal car for his duties, and will be getting an allowance of €7,000 per year for doing so.

Ms Buttigieg asked what arrangements had been made for the use of ministerial cars and their cost.

In his reply, Dr Muscat said that the cars used by the previous Cabinet of Ministers were deposited at the police garage on the eve of the last election. They have now been assigned to the new Cabinet members.

The OPM has also leased other cars to be used by other ministers and parliamentary secretaries for a short time. After 31 March, every ministry was responsible for making its own arrangements.
