PBS has new chairman, new editorial board

The government officially named Tonio Portugese as the new chairman of Public Broadcasting Services. He replaces Joe Mizzi.

Albert Marshall will be deputy chairman, while the other board members are Claire Bonello

Tony Cassar Darien, Edward Cassar Delia, Frank Portelli, Paul Vella and Adriana Zarb Adami.

The editorial board is led by Joseph Sammut and includes Felix Agius and Martin Fenech.

Dr Portughese was previously president of the Malta Employers Association, deputy chairman of MCAST board of governors and human resources director of ST Microelectronics> He was also awarded the Gieh ir-Repubblika honour for his contribution to the industrial development of Malta.

Mr Sammut is the public relations officer of Caritas and was previously CEO at MIA and MHRA, news editor at Radio Malta and a TV producer.

The government said that it will shortly appoint a board to draw up the reform process PBS is to undergo in line with the Labour Party’s electoral programme.
