Former journalists, now ministry officials, back on One TV

Malta Independent Monday, 29 April 2013, 12:41 Last update: about 11 years ago

Former one journalists Jonathan Attard and Ramona Attard, who left their job to take up a post in government secretariats  following Labour’s victory at the polls last March, have made an unexpected return as TV presenters during this morning’s edition of the breakfast show on the Labour TV station. Sources told this portal that during previous administration there were strict orders for people in similar positions, to refrain from having any regular committments on TV, such as newscasting.

Jonathan Attard is now employed as the media officer with Economy Minister Chris Cardona, whereas his former colleague is Chief of Staff in the Parliamentary Secretariat headed by Ian Borg.

It is not clear yet whether this morning’s appearance was just a one off or whether they will be presenting the breakfast show regularly.  However both of them had publicly declared that due to their new position they were bowing out of television.

Their unexpected appearance on Labour’s TV station as presenters of a current affairs programme could lead to a possible conflict of interest which might arise in case one of their respective ministries is involved in a controversy.
