High time for female deputy leader – Claudette Buttigieg

Malta Independent Friday, 10 May 2013, 14:20 Last update: about 11 years ago

PN MP Claudette Buttigieg said that she is carefully considering the feedback she is receiving from councillors eligible to vote in the deputy leadership race, describing it as positive.

She was asked by this portal if she has decided on whether she will contest for deputy leader.

“I am currently discussing with a number of councillors whether they see me occupying the role of deputy.

“The general feedback I am receiving is that the party is highly dominated by men and the party needs a change," she said.

She pointed out that the party shouldn’t remain dominated by male lawyers; the party needs a people’s person and the role of deputy requires a communicative person.

“I can definitely bring these skills to the table,” she said.

The PN's executive committee yesterday decided to create a new post, that of a deputy leader responsible for party affairs.
