Coca-Cola launches the biggest personalised brand campaign ever

Malta Independent Wednesday, 15 May 2013, 13:14 Last update: about 11 years ago

On the 14th May, The General Soft Drinks Co. Ltd, local bottlers of The Coca-Cola Company, officially launched the innovative Share a Coca-Cola campaign in Malta. This campaign will be running throughout this summer and will provide the opportunity for our consumers to enjoy the world’s favourite soft drink with friends, family and those they have yet to meet, in a more fun and personalised way than ever before. The launch was held at The Excelsior Hotel, Floriana where the first personalised bottles were shared with members of the media.

The Share a Coca-Cola campaign will see for the first time in Europe, the iconic Coca-Cola logo substituted with the most common and popular first names, nicknames, and terms of affection on bottles of Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Zero. In Malta a total of 126 names were chosen representing a cross-section of the most popular Maltese names. Thousands of unique Share a Coca-Cola named bottles have been prepared in advance of this launch, including nicknames such as ‘VIP’ and ‘Gorgeous’. Bottles are also available with a simple ‘Friend’, ‘Handsome’ or ‘Star’ packaging.

The Maltese and European Share a Coca-Cola campaign was inspired by a similar campaign incorporating names on bottles in Australia during 2011, which was a huge success with consumers.

The Share a Coca-Cola campaign was devised to encourage consumers to enjoy a ‘Coca-Cola moment’ with friends, family members and those they have yet to meet. The personalised bottles also make unique collectible gifts, as well as providing a personalised bottle that individuals can enjoy with pride. It is anticipated that in 2013, throughout Europe millions of pictures and videos featuring these ‘Coca-Cola moments’ will be uploaded to social media sites. The local campaign portal www.shareacocacola.com.mt will provide a platform to bring together this content in a fluid and personalised way, to share with friends and the world.

The full list of the first names, nicknames and terms of affection printed on the Coca-Cola bottles available in the Maltese market may be viewed on the campaign’s portal www.shareacocacola.com.mt as of the 15th May. All those consumers who do not find their names on the list will have the opportunity to order a personalised Share a Coca-Cola bottle through the MyCoke Malta Facebook page. Consumers will also be able to use the campaign website to create and personalise their own virtual cans to send to Facebook friends as well as browsing and uploading content and finding out about Coca-Cola events happening near them.

Maria Micallef, General Manager of The General Soft Drinks Co. Ltd, commented, “Summer is about meeting new friends and starting adventures.  We anticipate that the Share a Coca-Cola campaign will put Coca-Cola right at the heart of the Maltese Summer experience. This campaign will provide fun photo/video opportunities ready for sharing on the social media, as well as a talking point celebrating existing friendships and offering the potential to start new ones.”

The unique Share a Coca-Cola range of bottles will be available in-store alongside the traditionally-packaged Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Zero bottles.
