Two Somalis were jailed for three months each after admitting before Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit that they escaped from custody while being transported to Mater Hospital last Tuesday.
The two 17-year-olds from Mogadishu escaped from the back of the detention van. The Somalis were captured around 15 minutes later in Birkirkara.
Detention Services Officers were escorting the immigrants around 3pm together with other several detainees from Safi to Mater Dei Hospital.
Inspector Jason Francis Sultana prosecuted while Dr. Simon Micallef Stafrace defended the Somalis as legal aid.
