The Nationalist party this evening issued a statement accosting health minister Godfrey Farrugia for taking the law into his own hands and removing the whole board of the fledgling Embryo Protection Authority.
“Godfrey Farrugia has taken the law into his own hands. This board was only appointed in January. It is absurd to say that having a gynaecologist on the board constitutes a conflict of interest. Regulations state that in such cases, only the person deemed to have a conflict of interest should be removed, and not the whole board,” the PN said.
The PN call it a serious issue that a bioethics expert had not been appointed to the board.
“It is common practice across all of Europe for practicing IVF professionals to form part of such a board,” the spokesperson said.
