Audio: Interruptions fly as minister announces agreement with BWSC

Malta Independent Tuesday, 21 May 2013, 19:53 Last update: about 11 years ago

Energy minister Konrad Mizzi this evening said that an agreement has been reached between the government and Danish firm BWSC.

Enemalta and the Danish firm BWSC were locked in a €25 million dispute over fines and delays of the BWSC plant.

Dr Mizzi said that contrary to the impression given by the previous administration, there was no solid basis on which to file a claim against BWSC.

He said that it was in the national interest to withdraw the claims, as the cost of arbitration would result in Enemalta having to proffer more payments.

The minister said that the contract drawn up by the previous administration heavily favoured BWSC.

PN MP Tonio Fenech implored Dr Mizzi to publish the contract and a copy of the report recommending the government not to take BWSC to arbitration.

The sessions was punctuated by several vocal interruptions from the opposition benches.
